D91 - When light fails

Busy day today, but I was determined not to shoot indoors. Once home the light was fading fast, faster than your saving while sitting in a Casino in Vegas. So when light fails you, shoot a long exposure, as long as its not completely dark outside. This was a 15 second expose at f8.0 with a 'watch Brian run from geese sneaking up behind him in attack mode." Honestly , I don't know how I get so lucky to be in these situations.

Enjoy.

D90 - Keep it together

With 10 days to go before the first milestone, all I'm thinking is keeping it together and focus on what I will do for that post. So what better way to keep things together than with glue. Now that takes be back to elementary and that one class mate who liked to eat the glue. I actually still stay in contact with this person from time to time...I wouldn't recommend eating the glue in any degree.

Enjoy.

D89 - Simple Green Fun

Out of all the toy, games, Angry Birds, laptops, crayons, paints, and one princess bike, none of them entertain like this .29 cents balloon. It's been going strong for a week. Sara and I have played at least 10 different versions of catch, each time funnier than before. The best part is seeing her face light up when she asked if we can play catch with the balloon. Although when we are playing and I start to win she reminds me it's 'not a competition,' well until she starts to win again. Either way, I do like the little reminder about competition and of course the play time.

 Enjoy

D88 - Bark

While out looking for the shot of the day, I came across this piece of bark wrapped around the base of another the tree. The patterns and look of the bark really caught my attention, thus day 88.

D87 - Simplicity

We are slowing getting warmer days again; still this is not bad for the end of March. This capture was taking in a field of weeds, which it's easy to get lost in the stalks dancing and rustling in the wind. It's also easy to lose sight of the beauty and simplicity of a single stalk and curves coming off of it.

Take a moment and slow down this week, see something different.

Enjoy.

D86 - Making a Splash

While I do some more research on Astrophotography, I decided to grab an image at the beach today. The capture may look like a warn sunny day, but it was quite cold outside. Today was definitely a choppy on the lake, which means I couldn't walk out far on the rock without getting wet. I will have to see if there are other locations that I can explore for tomorrows capture.

Enjoy.

D85 - Star Search

The moon looked amazing tonight, especially with Jupiter so close in relative position. Venus was also pretty close, but not close to capture in the image below. Looking at a star map it looks like the moon and both planets were closer earlier in the night. I will have to keep my eye on the sky for more opportunities of capturing stars.

Enjoy.

D83 - New Growth

All the trees are starting to bud with all the warm weather that we are having lately. Tree buds always make for good subjects they don't move much and like to look larger than they really are. Of course this means the pollen is on it's way and many of us will return to our Benadryl dependency. They joys summer.

D82 - Blue Skies

It was another beautiful day! While this is the complete opposite of the weather that we are used to at his time of the year, I will take it. Normally it's snow, slush, and cold, but today was warm, sunny, and blue.

What better time to make a run to the beach and capture a few images.

Enjoy! If you stay inside during this weather then you are missing out 100% , Tonight was even a beautiful night.

D81 - Detours to Learning

When you work on a computer all day and then to then come home to work on another computer can be daunting. On the good side, I can take detours here and there at home while 'working'. The detours actually help with my focus when studying or completing multiple task. This is a technique I picked up when I learned Japanese, most of which was self taught. One of the suggestions of a Kanji lesson book was to work for a least 25 minutes and then take 10 minute break to let the lesson sink in. By the end of the book, I knew about 150 Kanji and still retain most of that knowledge. Of course, everyone learns differently,  so this might not be the approach you need to take. Never the less, there is no way to know if this will work for you too unless you try it.

D80 - The Mbira + Memories

Many years back, I bough this item at The National Museum of Ethnology in Osaka, it's a Mbira or as on the tag a 'Mini Sanzu' from Africa. The Mbira still works well after all the years, it's a miniature so the sound is limited, but love the tones that come from it (Sara does too). Besides being fun to break out every now and then, just having it take me back to the times I spent in Japan. This is why I kept the price tag on it, I think I bought this in 1999 or 2000. It's fun to step back and look at the things we hold on to over the years. Well as long as you don't get like those hoarders on TV, Yikes, but a healthy bit of 'Pack-Rat-ness' never hurt anyone. Yet.

What are you holding on to from years past?

D78 - Perfect Ending

The best ending to a great weekend. It was an amazing weekend complete with great weather, which for this time of the year is not normal in North East Ohio. Apparently, Vermont makes a great Hard Cider, perfect way to end a dinner and evening. On to the next week!

D77 - Lines

Took a moment to capture some lines with the electric/telephone wires while we were out today. Interesting enough these reminded me of the lines you see in Japan. Of course in Japan there are twice as many clusters of lines and a decent humming noise coming from the wires.

Enjoy.

D74 - Mixing up Tea

Today, I stopped by Teavana, and bought a few teas. If you have not been to their stores I would highly recommend it. The Tea adviser that helped me knew a lot about the different flavors, which teas blended well with others, and the daily specials. It was almost like have someone dedicated to guiding me through the discovery of trying new combinations to purchase. Below is one of those combinations we created, Opus Rouge and Acai Mateini.

D72 - Molinillo

The Molinillo [moh-lee-NEE-yoh] is the Mexican chocolate "whisk" or "stirrer", but it also makes for a greate detailed subject for day 72. Will try to get outside for tomorrow's image.

D71 - The Right Tools

To do a job right you need the proper tools, in addition to that those tools need to work properly. This is one reason why Pro Photographers have backup, and sometimes backup of backups. Below are Sara's paint brushes, in the past she would only use one brush per picture. These days, she is starting to use different brushes for the trees in her painting than she uses for the people she makes. This goes to the idea of knowing what you can and cannot do to use them more efficiently. I will have to photograph one of her next painting so show off her skill.

Enjoy.

D70 - Blue Skies

It was awesome yet cold day. While Sara and I were out, we stopped by a small park for a walk. Since Sara wanted to look for "snake foot prints" (yeah I have to think about it too), I moved back to capture the image below. I like how it looks as if she and the tree have the same shape. It was really cold out, don't let the sun fool you.

Enjoy.

FYI there were no Snake Foot Prints found, but we still ran a quarter of the way just in case.

D69 - Brilliance

the quote says ' Just don't give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don't think you can go wrong' by Ella Fitzgerald. If you put as much time into doing what you love as most people do talking about it, you will see it come to fruition sooner that you expect. Having trouble figuring out what you really want to do? My suggestion would be to take a day and just slow down. Take a long drive somewhere out of the way and give yourself time to focus without distractions. You might surprise yourself at what you discover.

Enjoy

D68 - Cleveland

This shot is off the back of a sweater that I picked up, several month back, from GV Art and Design. They make some of the coolest Tees and Hoodies in the area. The designers are also know nationally for their Etch-a-sketch work that they present to celebrities all over the country. Check out their site. I'm already planning on picking up a few more Tees and a second hoodie.

Here is a second image from being out last night in Cleveland, goes well with the hoodie.

D67 - Night Lights

I always wonder if people are really working in the office buildings all night long or did someone just forgot to turn off the lights. Would also like the see the electric bill for a building the same size of the black middle one under the moon, granted one company owned the whole building.

Anyway, remember to turn off your office lights tomorrow night.

D66 - Slight Distraction

Stargate Universe, one of those show that you have to just be into. I have been a fan for a while and during Sara and my last trip to the library, I found the season 1 DVDs. Just the break I needed before I get back to the books and practice. If you never seen any of the Stargate series and are into sci-fi, it's definitely worth checking out. Just follow the link.

D65 - Staple-osaurus

This the is name Sara gave the staple remover after I explained what it did to her some days back. I asked her 'why the osaurus?' her answer, 'Oh, you know, it uses it's Dino teeth to eat the staples that are grabbing the paper'. That is probably the best explanation I have heard for a staple remover in relationship to a Dinosaur. Since the remover caught my attention tonight, I thought it would make a good subject.

D64 - Snowed In

Since we were lucky enough to get some snow before Ginger Bread Boys flight back to Tennessee, I thought he could have one last spot light on the blog. Obviously he is not very happy with the weather here, but at least he was able to experience it all with in his brief stay in the 'O'. *Side note: Sara colored his suitcase.

D63 - A Little Horse

Well not my throat, a real little horse. After having a puppet show at the library, we went for a ride around the area to look at barns. When Sara saw the horses she yelled 'Daddy! Look! We have to stop and see the horses!' We did a quick turnaround and parked on the side of the road ,then Sara helped me capture the moment.

D61 - GBB : Letter to Ella

This post is actually for my niece Ella, Ginger Bread Boy is going home.

"Hi Ella, it's Ginger Bread Boy or GBB as your uncle likes to call me. Ohio was great! Your cousin Sara took me to the mall [we tried on shoes and played with jewelry] and later made pizza together, although I don't remember getting my piece. We also went to an Organic store where your uncle ordered a sandwich that he thought had chicken on it, but it was some 'weird, semi-crunchy, peanut fusion'. It was funny to watch him try to eat it with a smile.

Oh Sara's dog, Cleo, nibbled on my hand, Yuk, but she is still scared of the hula hoop! Remember that when you go back for a visit. The following week I watched as the weather went from freezing to toasty, Ohio weather is all kinds of goofy. Then I visited your Uncle's job, he had sliding boards at his work! 2 of them! Uncle Brian said the last picture will be of me ‘on the sliding board.’ Hmm, I really thought it would have been me riding it and not taped to the side of it. And he didn't use strong tape so I fell off! I guess that was my ride. See you in a few days Ella!"

Enjoy!
