365 Project - Day 228 - Flower Child

Day 228

Today I got a 50 1.4 lenses to try out from Lens Pro To Go. I highly recommend renting gear from them, cost on the site includes 2 day shipping to and from your location. All of the gear is in pristine condition and perfect working order. In addition, Paul and his staff are extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the equipment they rent.

I decided to get a few shots of some Lilies for the image today. I have to say Tasrawas right about how amazing a 50mm lens is. It's going top be tough sending this one back.

365 Project - Day 227 - Basket Case

Day 227

A tisket and tasket, time to shoot a basket. Today I was looking for patterns in common objects around the house. Funny what you can do with a Easter Basket, LED flashlight, and a little bit of laying on the ground.

365 Project - Day 224 - Sunday

Day 224

Today we took a few images for a friend whose daughter was having her first communion. Love the inside of this church in Akron, I need to photograph a bride in there! This is just a quick shot of the interior while people were taking pictures on the altar. I'll have to go back when it's empty with the wide angle lens.

365 Project - Day 223 - MS Note

Day 223

Today, we photographed the Akron MS Walk and the weather held out so no one was drenched while on their walk. The note photographed above really puts into words the help and support that the MS Society gives to people living with and fighting this disease. To all the staff and volunteers at the Independence and Columbus offices, Thank you for all that you do.

For those reading along on this 365 journey, there is no better time then now to start giving back to a non-profit organization that helps to better and serve your community. Whether it's by donating your services, time, and talent, they can never have too much help.

If your interested in volunteering with the MS Society you can look for local chapters here.

365 Project - Day 222 - Damn Pollen

Day 222

Because of all the pollen in the air I have to pop a few Benadryl pills so that I'm not sneezing away all day. The unfortunate down side is that these pills make me incredibly drowsy. I just love this time of the year.

365 Project - Day 221 - Hydrant Rust

Day 221

Theme Thursday's theme is 'Rust'. So I got the above image of a fire hydrant that had rust on a nut. More than the rust, I really liked the chain on the hydrant.

365 project - Day 218 - Lurking Around

Day 218

So long Chi-town! Before heading back home, we stopped by Millennium Park and I found little guy lurking on the downtown streets. I just had to get a picture of him chilling on the street. Seeing this makes me want to say "Beware, the alients are coming...and they are flat!" This gives a new meaning to street photography.

Time to get back to the normal grind in Ohio, but I will post some of the other Chicago images on my flickr page shortly.

Enjoy.

365 Project - Day 217 - On Set!

Day 217

Today was started off very exciting. As we set off looking for a restaurant to have breakfast at, I noticed a lot of trucks parked on the street. I recognized these trucks as ones that are used to deliver exhibits to museums, but there where many grips, pelican cases, and stands around them. Once at the next corner it was obvious what was going on, it was a TV or Movie shoot! I hurried across the street and started talking to the people on set to find out the details.

They were shooting a scene for a pilot called Ride-Along, written by Shawn Ryan, he also wrote shows like The Shield, and The Unit. While there watching the magic unfold I got to see a lot of the gear, learn some the logistics involved, and met a few stand-ins on the set.

Thanks to Mono for the Hot Coco, Donuts, and animal crackers, plus giving us the low down of what goes on when on set. Also a big shot out to Jeremy, who was a cool stand in on set. It was great learning about the process and seeing all the hands that played a part to make the scene happen.

Here is Jeremy...

A group of extras, who will come out of the building, in the scene, getting last minutes instructions for their part.

365 Project - Day 213 - Spots

Day 213

Today's image is of a pencil holder. I didn't noticed how cool it looked until I started shining light from my LED flashlight on it. After playing with the light, I got a up close image that really brought out the design of the holes in the steel.

365 Project - Day 212 - Bubbles, Finally

Day 212

It turns out that bubble solution can go bad and no longer produce bubbles no matter how much you try. I'm figuring this is the reason that Sara and I were so unsuccessful with getting her bubble Machine to work for Day 211. I went through 3 bottles of bubbles to find one that still had some bubble making umph! in it. The second part of the equation was getting the bubbles into the range of the focus. Lastly, I had to position the flashes to prevent light spill onto the background. All of this before Sara realized I had bubbles in her room. Did you know bubbles reflect everything when flashed? Me either, but I do now.

Renee & Jeff Married April 3rd, 2010

On April 3rd, my good friends Renee & Jeff got married at the Amish Door Village in Wilmot, Ohio. It was a  awesome day, though a little windy and overcast, but that made for great images. The service was beautiful and fun with Rev. Cathrine Daniels as the officiant. Thank you Renee & Jeff for letting us capture your wedding day and the joining of your families. Congratulations!

*On a side note the food was incredible!

365 Project - Day 211 - Sara Smiles

Day 211

Today, Sara and I went outside after school to play with a bubble machine before dinner, but sadly the solution we used didn't work too well. My plan was to use 2 flashes, one in front and one behind Sara, to capture some images while she went after the bubbles. Once Sara realized the the bubbles were a no go, she started dodging the camera like Neo from the Matrix did bullets. She was smiling all the way but kept me on my toes.

365 project - Day 210 - More Trees

Day 210

I was out today with a wide angle lens and tried to do a few toss shots. This is where you can set a timer, prefocus, toss your camera in the air with a little spin, and get some fun results. The results were fun, but none were what I wanted, plus there were a couple close calls. So I decided to do a shot of tree branches touching the sky.

I will give the toss shots another try, but next time will have 2 batteries in the grip to keep the toss balanced.

365 Project - Day 209 - MS Walk Cleveland 2010

Day 209

We had a great day shooting images for the MS Walk at the Cleveland Browns Stadium this morning. This was our third year volunteering for the event and we enjoyed every minute of it. In two weeks, we will shoot the Akron MS Walk event, which there is still time to donate and/or signup for at the MS Walk site. Help leave a mark on MS!

365 Project - Day 208 - Brick City

Day 208

Today, I found a cool abandoned brick building to shoot. The texture of the bricks really caught my attention as I originally drove by, but quickly returned to the location. I ended up shooting the back of the building even though there was so much to capture all around it. There may be a brick building series in the coming up now.

365 Project - Day 207 - 2 lights 1 Tricycle

Day 207

Today I wanted to do a little more work with lights, so I pulled out the tricycle. Note to self: pulling out a tricycle at bed time is not the best idea when your daughter isn't sleeping yet. After getting Sara off the tricycle, because she kept trying to ride it out of the room with the tricycle. Once I got everything setup it was a matter of getting the lights positioned right for the shot. The trick is getting the shot done and edited before Sara falls asleep so I can edit on my PC and not the laptop.

365 project - Day 205 - Manual Control

Day 295

Today I've been in the mood to do some throwback images and break out my film from the fridge. In light of that, I pulled out some of my older gear such as 35mm bodies, lenses, and film. While looking at the lenses, I decided to shoot one for the image today with a little off camera lighting.

365 project - Day 204 - Water Tension

Day 204

Tonight I wanted to try something a little different, so I started playing with water tension. The hardest part was finding an object that would actually sit on top of the water surface and not sink. After trying with different glasses I found the ones with the wider tops were easier to put the objects in them. As for objects paper clips worked the best. I set up the flash on a pocket wizard set at 1/8th power 2½ feet away from the glass at the camera left. I also used a LED flashlight to illuminate the paper clip from the camera right about 4" from glass. To get the green, I put a green Frisbee to the subjects right. This was a fun setup tonight, I like how the paperclip is indented in the water.

365 project - Day 203 - Horsing Around

Day 203

Since it was such a nice day today, we decided to go to the bike trails for a early morning ride. We came arcorss this horse while just starting our ride. Sara was a big fan from the distance, but one we were next to the horse, she did not want to pet him for long.

365 project - Day 201 - Robin Fence

Day 201

Well it's official, we have 164 days left! A little less than 6 months to go on the project. I was out scouting a venue, Inn at Amish Door in Wilmont Ohio, for a wedding tomorrow. For the most part, just checking the lighting, location, and getting a feel for the grounds. There was a long while fence that got my attention and I noticed a robin pearched on one of the post. I quickly got a few shots off for todays image. It was beautiful out today with 80 degree weather,  you really can't ask for anything more.

365 project - Day 200 - Straw Bright

Day 200

For day 200, I decided to light up some of Sara's straws. I stuffed them into a shot glass and then pressed the lower necks of the straws together to make then spread out. This shot involved a lot of experimenting with light positioning to help illuminate them. In the end, having the flash behind the straws and shot glass pointed up slightly worked the best.
