365 Project - Day 260 - Practice...Practice

Day 260

To keep the Japanese skills up to par, I will occasionally read kids books or newspapers in Japanese. I tried to read this one to Sara, in Japanese, but she prefers the English translation. The book is called Omusubi Kororin, there is a rough translation on the link.

Enjoy.

365 Project - Day 259 - Night Out

Day 259

Perla went out went to a 'ladies night out' with her girls to the movies, as noted by the handmade card above. Sara and I partied hard at home, a few parks, toy store, and Handels Ice Cream. Missed posting this last night as we all were crazy tired.

On to the next.

Enjoy.

365 Project - Day 258- Range Top

Day 258

Range top for tonight's image. I was experimenting with tossing color treated water into the bathtub but I need to give that another try once I get my remote trigger back.

Enjoy.

365 Project - Day 255 - Skip's Summer School

Day 255

Skip's Summer School 2009
was amazing, and now that I have experienced WPPI, I can say it was like having a more intimate WPPI tradeshow at the end of summer. Summer School was an absolutely great way to re-energize and get inspired for the remainder of the year, plus go away with a plan for the next year. Beyond what you learn from the great speakers, because of the size of the conference, you can really network with some great photographers from all over the world. Not to mention getting more face time with your vendors and meeting new ones.

If you are still on the fence about going, I would suggest making the jump. Skip's Summer School 2010 is well worth the investment with the lineup of speakers, lighting lab, vendors that will be onsite, and of course for the fact it's in Vegas! This years topic is diversity and this is the best time to learn the balance between not being a "one trick pony" or "taking any job that comes your way".

Jump over to Skip's Photo Network to check out some his post on Skip's Summer School 2010 as well as Profiles on some of the speakers. If your not following/RSS his blog, you are missing out on a wealth of knowledge, valuable business tips, and fun stories about Verizon's lack of customer service [and what we can learn from them].

Enjoy.

365 Project - Day 253 - It's all a Blur

Day 253

Since today was warm and sunny, the fam and I decided to hit the park for a after work/school picnic. While there, I went to grab my image of the day but then, for some reason, I chose to listen to the odd suggestion in my head and captured this image:

I really love the motion and flow of the image. Next steps will be incorporating a subject into this type of picture, not sure if it's possible but it's worth exploring. ISO: 100, 1/6, f22, @10mm hand held.

365 Project - Day 250 - Colors

Day 250

Just love the colors on my daughters pinwheel and how a little side-lighting can bring them out. I actually tried to use my mobile phone to light this image, but at the setting I wanted to make the background black, the phone wasn't bright enough. Instead, I attached the flash to the camera using a OC-E3 sync cable, then positioned the flash at the cameras upper right almost parallel with the pinwheel. I played with different heights to get the look I liked the most. And actually didn't do much post-production, got it right in camera and then added the border & logo. :)

Enjoy.

365 Project - Day 249 - Creative Flight

Day 249

Funny thing about today's shot is I didn't even realize the theme of the day was 'Flight' and I just happened to hit the theme nail on the head. I wanted to keep with the thought from yesterday and let my creativity run to it's fuillest. I started out thinking I was going to photograph some flowers. When I got to a school parking lot I though about an image of me flying off a set of swings, that when I remembered yesterdays post. Skipping the flowers I drove to the back of the school, and tested the swing theory out...no go, would be too tough to trigger the camera timer and get the hieght I needed in 10 seconds.

Next, I moved the rest of the playground and decided I could jump from the slide while counting down the timed exposure (10 secs, then a additional 3 before the camera actually triggers). While I was attempting my jumps, two people were at the school cutting the grass (one of them is in the final image!)...and I almost stopped but figured 'that's another excuse not to get the shot I want' and kept jumping and shooting. I had a blast trying to get the shot in my head, the image above was my favorite from the 30 minute fun time. Check out the outtakes below...click them to see a them larger. This was one of the most fun shots I have taken to date and the most creatively free image as well.

Enjoy.

365 Project - Day 248 - Broken Stalks

Day 248

Finally, I shot this field again [first shot it on Day 3]. I've wanted to shoot this image but kept putting it off wanting the right light, time, and a host of other 'excuses' to not get off my butt and shoot it. This morning I read a post from Chase Jarvis titled 'I'd be more creative if...' where he talked about delving deeper into our creative moments and not letting excuses stop us from taking steps to go forward. Give the post a read, it's well worth it!

I'd be more creative if...trusted my creative instincts more. It's a work in progress and I'm progressing.

Enjoy.

365 Project - Day 247 - Deflector Shield

Day 247

This one is for all the geeks out there, only calling it a deflector shield because this object deflects harmful rays that are fired upon your craft. The rays it deflects can do serious damage to even the most advanced ships. :) It's just a sunshade for your car.

Enjoy.

365 Project - Day 242 - Worn

Day 242

Theme Thursday, the theme was 'worn' so I went for my car tires. If I took this image a few months back there would not have been much tread to look at, they were really worn-out.

Enjoy.

365 Project - Day 240 - More Control

Day 240

I find it amusing how many remote controls we have. Even though I hate to miss place one, it's always a good way to get out of 'automatic' mode and have to change the channels manually. Or better yet change settings, it's such a task without the remote but it keeps you on your toes.

Enjoy.

365 Project - Day 239 - Stacking

Day 239

Stacking up some coins and decided to do a little macro work. Sadly this was with a f5.6 lens so the deoth of field isn't very shallow. I do, however, likethe way the ridges on the quarters look.

365 Project - Day 238 - Fews Books

Day 238

Just a few books from my daughters book shelf, which she likes to call her library. Today, she was having a lot of fun re-arranging her books and discovering ones she had forgotten about. Can't go wrong with a love for books & art!

365 Project - Day 237 - Cookies

365 Project - Day 236 - Friends

Day 236

Sara loves balloons, but even more she loved when I draw a face on them and like to pretend the balloon person is talking to her. Some of the dialogue that she says comes from a Yo Gabba Gabba episode. As she sings, I will pick her up and she flies around with the balloon like on the show. Sometimes it the small things that are most fun.

365 Project - Day 235 - One More Cup

No coffee for me, I'm a tea person. There is nothing like a strong loose leaf Earl Grey to give you a little extra kick after lunch.

365 Project - Day 234 - Cinco de Mayo

Day 234

Today, I went to tour the new Simply Canvas offices. Their new office space is huge and the canvases they had hanging up looked amazing! Shot of the day was with my camera, I just asked Drew to snap the image for me. I can't wait to order a few canvases now.

Enjoy.

365 Project - Day 233 - Noodles

Day 233

Still playing with the 50mm 1.4, tossed some spaghetti noodles in a short glass and used a LED flashlight at the camera right. The blue light in the background are from my PC, I'm loving the bokeh generated from this lens.

Large version on flickr.

365 Project - Day 232 - Up And Away

Day 232

One of the perks of living near an airport is getting to watch planes land and take off. I love the fact that it was a clear day out today, the plane looks that much nicer on a blue background.

365 Project - Day 231 - Pizza Crumb Box

Day 231

Pizza Crumb, it's the crumbs from the top of a crumb cake on a thin crust baked and readily available via a Dairy Barn Drive-thru in Long Island. It is soooo delicious!! If I can salvage any tomorrow morning before we dig into the last box I'll take some images of it.

Enjoy.
